Hey everyone and welcome to the 2023 BCM Advent Devotional! Whether you’re a student, alum, parent, sibling, grandparent, or brother or sister in Christ, welcome! This is our second year of diving into Scripture daily as a community leading up to Christmas, and we could not be more excited to have each of you joining us.
So what exactly is Advent? I’d love to tell you! Advent is a four-week season in the Church calendar dedicated to anticipating the arrival, or "advent", of Jesus Christ, the long-awaited Messiah and King. Christians from many backgrounds celebrate this time with reflections on hope, peace, love, and joy. And while their practices may look different, all focus on the hope-filled arrival of Jesus.
In the spirit of Advent and this season of waiting, we invite each of you to come back here every day starting December 1st to read Scripture, reflect on God’s Living Word, and explore how the Old Testament predicted the Coming of Jesus Christ! Each day, one of our BCM student leaders, staff, or alumni have prepared a short, interactive devotional, which focuses on a different passage of Scripture that predicts aspects of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven. Our writers have also provided reflection questions where you can respond and reflect to, and interact with other people’s responses.
Once again, we are so excited to continue this tradition and grow together as we prepare for the arrival of the King! I pray that this season of Advent draws each of you closer to Jesus! See you all tomorrow for Day One!
